Revealed at the Intermot Motorcycle Show in Germany, 2011 Yamaha EC-03 is sleek, easy to handle, zero emission electric bike that has been designed for the busy city dwellers. The EC-03 is aimed at providing a fast yet convenient way to go around and give surprising performance with almost no operating cost.
Apart from the silent and clean operation, the electric bike features two operation modes that allow the biker to switch from standard – if he wants to boost speed – to special power mode with the touch of a button. The battery pack of 2011 Yamaha EC-03 takes 7 hours to charge from any standard main supply and has a range of approximately 46km at 30km/h on a flat road. In standard mode it achieves a running distance of 30Km per charge while in power mode it reaches 20Km.
The slim body of the EC-03 comes from Yamaha’s specially-designed YIPU (Yamaha Integrated Power Unit). The unit uses a direct-drive type in-hub motor to reduce the power-transmission loss to minimum and a mini-computer control to calculate optimum output at all times. Other equipments included in the Yamaha EC-03 include optimized gear settings and electronic throttle built into the handlebar grip.
Also, there is an instrument panel with digital LCD display, speedometer and battery charge gauge. Contributing in bike’s lightweight construction and riding pleasure is the specially designed aluminum-alloy pipe frame, which is around 30% lighter than a 50cc gasoline engine scooter, stylish, multi-reflector headlights and specially designed tires that add more to riding experience.
